Financial Markets Advisory, Director | BlackRock

The Tone:
This is a full-time Director role at BlackRock, located in New York City with a hybrid work model. BlackRock is a global financial institution connected by the mission to help more people experience financial well-being, facilitating investments that strengthen the global economy for clients saving for retirement, education, and homeownership. The Financial Markets Advisory (FMA) group provides critical counsel to financial institutions, sovereigns, and official institutions across a range of strategic, capital, balance sheet, risk, and regulatory matters in both public and private markets. This Director position is central to shaping and delivering FMA’s strategy in the Americas, combining senior-level client advisory, commercial leadership, and talent development to serve clients on their most critical and complex needs.

What You’ll Actually Do
Strategic Direction: Help shape FMA’s strategic direction in the Americas, including identifying growth priorities, emerging themes, and opportunities for new offerings or partnerships aligned with BlackRock’s broader commercial objectives.
Project Leadership: Direct and manage large, multi-disciplinary project teams, incorporating subject matter experts, data and analytical specialists, researchers, and generalists, while acting as the central point of coordination across multiple concurrent projects.
Client Advisory: Serve as a primary day-to-day liaison with clients, including senior executive stakeholders, playing a hands-on role in project execution through content creation, problem solving, quantitative analysis, and provision of solutions-oriented advice on complex capital markets challenges.
Commercial Impact: Drive meaningful commercial impact, including originating new engagements, expanding existing relationships, and translating ideas into scaled advisory or investment collaborations, while interacting with BlackRock and client senior management and industry participants.
Talent Development: Act as a senior leader, mentor, and coach to the team, developing talent, strengthening project leadership capabilities, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture within FMA.

The Must-Haves
Background: Senior-level professional with a deep understanding of capital markets across a range of asset classes, including private markets, and demonstrated understanding of the operating model and balance sheets of key financial ecosystem participants such as banks, insurance companies, pension funds, and other asset owners.
Experience: 10+ years of experience in the financial sector with a demonstrated record of commercial impact, including business building, revenue generation, or expansion of senior client relationships, and comfort operating in ambiguous environments to build new client solutions.
Skills: Strategic mindset with the ability to operate as a trusted advisor to senior executives and shape longer-term agendas, strong entrepreneurial orientation, excellent problem-solving abilities, exceptional written and verbal communication skills to synthesize complex issues for senior audiences, and strong quantitative and technical skills.
Bonus: Preference for investment or corporate banking, strategy consulting, advisory, or investment experience, combined with intellectual curiosity and sound judgment, and a passion for finance, markets, and/or sustainability concepts.
