What You’ll Actually Do
• Business Case Development & Strategic Modeling: Build and maintain comprehensive end-to-end financial models for technology investment business cases, ensuring clarity, structure, and ease of future maintenance. Translate technical inputs such as capacity, architecture, engineering labor, and infrastructure components into robust financial outputs, while also conducting scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and line-item modeling to support investment trade-off decisions.
• Cross-Functional Partnering: Engage with engineering, architecture, infrastructure, and product leaders to thoroughly understand core technology drivers and convert these into clear financial implications. This involves close collaboration with broader Finance teams (FP&A, Controllership, Strategy) to ensure all business cases align with overarching financial goals and P&L impacts, and to gather, validate, and challenge assumptions from cross-functional teams for accuracy and transparency.
• Process & Framework Ownership: Contribute to building and maintaining a repeatable, scalable framework for business case development, encompassing standardized templates, consistent modeling logic, and effective governance practices. This includes managing a quarterly refresh process for all models to keep assumptions, actuals, and forecasts current, thereby driving consistency and traceability across all inputs, assumptions, and outputs.
• Strategic Insights & Decision Support: Proactively identify key financial drivers, highlight potential risks and opportunities, and deliver insight-rich recommendations that elevate the quality of decision-making. This also involves challenging assumptions to uncover blind spots and supporting forecasting and budgeting activities specifically related to technology investments and ongoing run-the-business cost structures.
• Automation & Continuous Improvement: Pinpoint opportunities to automate or streamline existing modeling, intake, and business case workflows to enhance efficiency. Provide support in implementing tools that modernize the end-to-end investment process, such as Confluence, Jira, ServiceNow, various modeling engines, and other automation solutions, consistently pushing for efficiency, standardization, and data integrity.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or a closely related field. Possesses experience typically associated with a Director-level role in FP&A, strategic finance, business case development, or technology finance.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Technology or Product teams, coupled with a strong appetite to learn and understand technical details. Possesses specific experience related to cloud, infrastructure, software development lifecycle, or platform economics.
• Skills: Exhibits strong financial modeling and valuation capabilities, with expert-level proficiency in Excel. Demonstrates strong communication skills and executive presence, capable of framing complex issues, influencing diverse stakeholders, and driving alignment across various groups. Is highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and rigor, and can manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Bonus: An MBA or CFA designation is preferred. Has exposure to modeling automation tools or financial systems such as Anaplan, Domo, Alteryx, or Power BI.
