Job Description: Digital Modeling Intern
As a Digital Modeling intern at Tesla’s Design Studio in Hawthorne, CA, you will be a crucial link between design and engineering. Your primary responsibilities will involve:
• Developing high-quality digital prototypes: Creating both interior and exterior 3D models for production and concept vehicles. This work will directly support the design and development of Tesla vehicles.
• Interpreting and defining design intent: Translating design concepts into accurate and aesthetically pleasing 3D models.
• Creating production-ready surfaces: Developing high-quality, polished 3D models ready for use in the production process.
• Serving as a trusted advisor and problem-solver: Providing expertise and solutions to design challenges.
• Showcasing artistry, imagination, and innovation: Contributing creative and original ideas to the design process.
• Developing 3D forms from 2D sketches and renderings: Translating initial design concepts into three-dimensional models.
• Analyzing engineering criteria: Using engineering specifications to guide the development of design surfaces.
• Developing surface modeling techniques: Utilizing Tesla’s established standards and best practices.
• Managing and releasing Vehicle Design data: Assisting with the organization and dissemination of design information.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Architecture, Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
• Strong experience with CAD modeling.
• Strong technical problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Proven ability to deliver results on challenging projects with tight deadlines.
Additional Considerations:
The internship is expected to run from August or September 2025 to December 2025, with the possibility of extension into Winter/Spring 2026. A minimum of 12 weeks of full-time, on-site work is required. International students with CPT work authorization must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site and should consult their school beforehand.
