About the Role
Governor Hochul’s Digital-Creative Team is actively seeking motivated interns for the Summer 2026 term. This pivotal team plays a crucial role in representing, championing, and manifesting the Governor’s work, with the goal of reaching and cultivating direct relationships with New Yorkers across the state. This internship is ideally suited for students passionate about creative communications and dedicated to public service, providing invaluable hands-on experience in understanding how the Governor effectively delivers on key policy priorities. As an intern, you will contribute significantly by assisting in the management of official digital channels, meticulously maintaining the Governor’s visual brand identity, and actively producing diverse multimedia content.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation:
- Draft compelling and engaging copy tailored for various social media channels and email newsletters.
- Assist in the production of high-quality graphic, photographic, and video assets that resonate with the target audience.
- Strategy & Planning:
- Support the management of the social media content calendar, ensuring timely and strategic content deployment.
- Actively participate in creative brainstorming sessions, contributing innovative ideas for digital campaigns.
- Event Coverage:
- Capture dynamic photo and video content at official Governor events.
- Content will be utilized for both real-time social media updates and future strategic communications.
- Partner Engagement:
- Draft sample social media and newsletter copy for external partner toolkits.
- Support stakeholder activation initiatives to amplify key messages.
- Research & Analytics:
- Provide essential support to the team with social media research, identifying trends and opportunities.
- Assist in influencer engagement efforts to expand reach and impact.
- Contribute to performance reporting, analyzing metrics to inform future strategies.
Location
This is an in-person position and will be primarily based in Buffalo, New York.
Required Skills
- Creative Communication: Possess a strong skillset in one or more of the following areas:
- Copywriting (for digital platforms)
- Video production
- Photography
- Graphic design
- Digital Savvy: Demonstrated familiarity with various social media platforms and an understanding of effective digital engagement strategies.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to thrive and perform effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Due to the nature of the role, some morning, evening, or weekend work may be required to cover events or meet deadlines.
- Collaboration: A strong willingness to work cooperatively across different teams, effectively translating complex policy priorities into clear, resonant, and engaging digital content.
Qualifications
- Residency: Must either be a New York State resident OR be enrolled in a college or university located within New York State.
- Application Requirements: A comprehensive cover letter and a relevant writing sample are mandatory requirements to be considered for this position.
- Commitment: Ability to commit to working 20-30 hours per week, depending on availability and team needs.
Duration
This internship is specifically for the Summer 2026 term.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
This is a paid position.
