Digital Communications Intern (Fall 2026) | American Rivers
The Tone:
This is an internship at American Rivers, located virtually (United States-based). American Rivers champions a national effort to protect and restore all rivers, ensuring healthy rivers provide people and nature with clean, abundant water and natural habitat. This role supports the Digital Team’s day-to-day communications initiatives, with a primary focus on social media and digital engagement. The intern will gain hands-on experience creating content and contributing to the organization’s mission of environmental advocacy and river protection.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Content Development: Create graphics, short-form videos, and other engagement-focused digital content.
• Video Editing: Assist with video editing for social media campaigns and organizational communications.
• Digital Writing: Draft and edit blogs, captions, and various digital communications materials.
• Social Media Monitoring: Monitor social media channels for comments, messages, and engagement opportunities.
• Analytics Support: Support the Digital Team with tracking digital communications performance metrics.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Current college student pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, digital media, earth science, environmental science/studies, public relations, or a related field.
• Experience: Demonstrated interest in digital communications, social media, and environmental advocacy; experience with video editing software and creating short-form digital content for social media platforms.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail; familiarity with social media platforms and digital tools; highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
