Development Intern | Vancouver Housing Authority

The Tone:
This is an internship at Vancouver Housing Authority (VHA), located in Vancouver, WA. The VHA is dedicated to providing affordable housing and assistance to over 12,000 residents in Clark County, Washington, while also fostering community development. This role is crucial for supporting the real estate development team in their mission to create and preserve affordable housing, directly contributing to meaningful work that addresses housing needs and homelessness in the community.

The TL;DR

• Location: In-person, Vancouver, WA (at least 12 hours weekly from VHA office)
• Pay: $20 hourly
• Team: Real Estate Department, assisting Project Managers
• Mission: To support the creation and preservation of affordable housing and contribute to community development activities throughout Clark County.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Coordination: Coordinate third-party professional services for architectural, environmental, construction, legal, appraisal, and market study needs.
• Preparation: Prepare development project budgets, operating proformas, and funding applications.
• Development: Develop community engagement activities and events for various projects.
• Coordination: Coordinate various planning, zoning, environmental, and permit approval processes.
• Organization: Collect and organize historical development documents from past VHA projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled in an accredited college in the Portland/SW Washington metro area, majoring in Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Real Estate, Real Estate Development, Public Administration, or Public Policy, with completion of at least one year of curriculum in these areas.
• Experience: Coursework and/or related experience in the real estate industry or urban planning is strongly preferred.
• Skills: Knowledge of principles and practices of real estate finance and development, grant writing, development and operating budgets, and real estate transactions. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, assist with the preparation of competitive funding applications, manage multiple projects concurrently, and communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
