Job Description: Design Assistant (Student Program)
This position is for a Design Assistant within Urbis’s broader Design team, specifically for Landscape Architecture and Urban Design roles. These are student internships available in NSW & VIC offices.
The role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to high-quality design and innovative solutions. As an intern, you will actively contribute to complex and meaningful projects that shape the urban landscape, gaining invaluable insights and making a tangible impact on real-world initiatives. The student roles offer flexibility, requiring 3-4 days per week, to seamlessly integrate with your studies.
As part of the broader Design Team, you will:
• Support team members with client requests and project requirements, escalating to senior staff when needed.
• Build relationships with peers in other Business Units.
• Learn technical aspects of design projects, including site analysis, council approval processes, and design documentation.
• Present and communicate design outcomes using freehand or computer-aided programs (including CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Revit).
• Work on multi-disciplinary projects, meeting specifications, deadlines, and budgets.
• Prepare weekly timesheets and input to monthly accounts.
• Contribute to a safe workplace and comply with health, safety, and wellbeing policies.
Specific Role Responsibilities as a Design Assistant:
• Assist in visually communicating key landscape design outcomes in a clear and succinct manner.
• Support a range of services including site analysis, council approval processes, and illustrative plan production.
• Assist with the development of proposals and tenders for potential clients and projects.
• Source and compile appropriate imagery for projects.
• Meet allocated budget and timeframes.
Qualifications, Experience & About You:
• Currently undertaking a tertiary course in Environments and/or Design.
• Some office experience is desirable but not essential.
• Proven skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and effective report writing skills.
• Must be passionate, hardworking, and a great fit for the spirited, collaborative culture at Urbis.
• Mandatory Requirement: You must have valid working rights in Australia and be studying throughout the duration of the internship to be eligible for the program.
