Job Description: Data Scientist
Voleon’s newly formed team is seeking a Data Scientist to contribute to their data-driven investment initiatives. This role is crucial to their business, as data insights are central to their machine learning approach.
Responsibilities:
• Data Integrity and Monitoring: Design and implement systems to ensure data accuracy and monitor the health of data stores and live feeds. Proactively identify and communicate abnormal production behavior to stakeholders.
• Real-time Analysis: Perform ad-hoc analyses on research and production trading systems, presenting findings to leadership.
• Actionable Insights: Leverage financial expertise and statistical analysis to extract actionable insights from production trading and research systems.
• Automated Analysis Pipelines: Design and implement automated analysis pipelines for valuable ongoing monitoring tasks.
Requirements:
• 1+ years of applied industry experience (internships included) working with complex datasets, encompassing curation, querying, aggregation, exploratory data analysis, and visualization.
• Experience using statistical methods for data analysis, pattern identification, root cause analysis, insight discovery, and solution recommendation.
• Strong mathematical abilities to frame and answer questions mathematically.
• Ability to extrapolate forward-looking trends from retrospective analyses.
• Proficiency in managing, processing, and visualizing tabular data using SQL, Pandas, and R.
• Basic software development skills with bash, Linux/Unix, and Git.
• Excellent communication skills to refine ambiguous requests and produce clear, impactful reports.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (statistics, biostatistics, data science, computer science, or related field).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
• Prior industry experience or demonstrated interest in finance (academic projects, financial engineering coursework, internships).
• Experience in a production environment and familiarity with CI/CD, Git, and Airflow.
Compensation:
The base salary range is $150,000 to $190,000, varying based on factors like education, experience, skills, and location. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 20 days of PTO, 9 sick days, and a 401(k) plan with a company match.
