Our work specifically within Data Science, Experimentation, and Causal Inference research is pivotal. It drives improvements across numerous areas of our business, including commerce, content, studio, and product development. This research actively supports product innovation, deepens our understanding of members, and informs content evaluation, creation, and promotion. To achieve this, we leverage a diverse set of sophisticated methodologies, ranging from machine learning and statistics to econometrics, optimization, and operations research.

Who are you? (Qualifications):

  • Currently pursuing a PhD degree at an accredited university, with an expected graduation in December 2026, Summer 2027 or later.
  • To be intern-eligible, you must be returning to school for one semester or quarter post-Summer internship.
  • Engaged in relevant research into online experimentation (sequential, adaptive, etc.), observational causal inference, or a related area.
  • Experience programming in R and/or Python.
  • A curious, self-motivated individual, excited about solving open-ended challenges at Netflix.
  • Possess great communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Past publications in relevant conferences or journals.
  • Comfortable with SQL.
  • Experience with version control systems such as git.

Internships are paid and have a minimum duration of 12 weeks, with a choice of a few fixed start dates in May or June 2026 to accommodate varying school calendars. Conditions permitting, our summer internships will be located in our Los Gatos, CA office, or in our Los Angeles, CA office, depending on the assigned team.

We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific job, skills, and experience to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.
