The Office of Audit and Investigation Services (OAIS)
The internship is specifically offered within OAIS, which is an operationally independent office at UNFPA. OAIS reports directly to the Executive Director of UNFPA.

OAIS’s Core Mission:
To support the achievement of UNFPA’s objectives by contributing to the improvement of its operations, risk management, and results. This is accomplished through its specialized services:
Internal audit
Investigation
Advisory services

OAIS is structured into three main components:
• The Office of the Director
• An Internal Audit Branch

### About the Job: Data and Analytics Internship

The Position:
This is an internship opportunity within the Office of Audit and Investigation Services (OAIS) for a Data and Analytics student or graduate.

Job Purpose:
The primary goal of this internship is to contribute to ongoing projects and initiatives that aim to enhance the use of modern analytics technologies in oversight activities. These initiatives span the domains of data engineering and data science, including the design and implementation of machine learning models.

Key Details:
Location: Remote
Full/Part time: Full-Time
Duration: 24 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Supervision: The intern will work under the overall guidance of the Director of OAIS and the direct supervision of the Data Management Specialist.

Responsibilities:
The intern will actively contribute to a variety of tasks, including:
Collaborating with audit teams to define and document data requirements.
Supporting the identification and extraction of data from operational systems, such as Oracle ERP.
Assisting in the design and implementation of data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
Developing scripts for data analysis and automating data validation routines.
Conducting exploratory data analysis and statistical hypothesis testing.
Designing and implementing interactive dashboards and visualizations.
Studying, designing, and implementing machine learning models for risk assessment and anomaly detection.
Supporting the development of LLM-based solutions (Large Language Model) to facilitate AI integration in oversight activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:
• Must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (Master’s or higher) in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field; OR
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in the aforementioned fields; OR
• Have graduated with a university degree in the specified fields and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation.

Knowledge and Experience:
Knowledge of data models, database design and development, ETL design and implementation, and data mining.
Advanced programming skills with Python specifically focused on data engineering, data analysis, and machine learning.
Familiarity with statistical methods such as regression, distribution properties, and hypothesis testing.
Experience with Microsoft Power BI is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, with proven ability to express well verbally and in writing.
• Good knowledge of one of the other UN official languages (French, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish or Russian) is desirable but not a strict requirement.

Financial Aspects:

• Costs (living expenses, accommodation, travel) must be covered by the intern, or by a nominating institution/program (e.g., university, scholarship).
• However, interns may receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses if they are not financially supported by any other institution or program. The stipend amount varies based on the agreed place of work (can be different for remote arrangements).
• Applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship; UNFPA does not provide it. Proof of insurance is required before starting.
