Cyber Security Graduate Intern | City of New York – Department of Finance

The Tone:
This is an internship at City of New York – Department of Finance, located in New York, NY. The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is committed to fairly, efficiently, and transparently managing the city’s tax revenue laws to build public trust and ensure compliance while providing excellent customer service. The Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division within DOF designs, builds, and supports all of the department’s computer systems, including hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone, and data security, and manages vital tax-related payment programs for the City. This role is crucial for assisting the Cyber Security Unit in executing critical projects like Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), significantly enhancing the agency’s overall security maturity.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship

• Pay: $17.9–$26.73 hourly
• Team: Cyber Security Unit, reporting to the Director of Cyber Security Operations
• Mission: To contribute to a high-performing cyber security team by supporting critical projects and strategic security initiatives to enhance the agency’s security posture.
• Tech Stack: Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), NIST Cyber Security framework

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Streamlining: Assist with Cyber Security Forms and engage users to streamline request and approval processes.
• Risk Management Support: Support security efforts by developing and applying systemic risk categories across critical infrastructure domains.
• Analytics and Testing: Assist with malware analytics, risk management, and security testing.
• Process Improvement: Provide recommendations to the CyberSecurity team for improving customer service and internal processes.
• Incident Reporting: Recognize problems by identifying abnormalities and report security violations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career, pursuing a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university, or law school, with a focus on cyber security.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience is required, but a strong work ethic and the capacity to contribute to a high-performing team are essential.
• Skills: Technical aptitude, strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills.
