Cyber Security Graduate Intern

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is dedicated to fair, efficient, and transparent administration of the city’s tax revenue laws, aiming to foster public confidence and compliance while delivering outstanding customer service.

Within DOF, the Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division is responsible for designing, building, and supporting all aspects of DOF’s computer systems, encompassing hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone, and data security. FIT provides and manages tax-related payment programs for the City of New York by delivering essential information technology solutions. Beyond tax collection, FIT also supports systems and websites for citywide payments, land records, property assessment, parking adjudications, customer service, and the Sheriff’s public safety operations.

FIT’s Cyber Security Unit is actively seeking a technical Cyber Security Graduate Intern. This role will be instrumental in the successful execution of critical projects, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), and other strategic security initiatives. DOF has assembled a top-tier cyber security team, among the largest in municipal government, which has implemented high-impact security protocols based on the NIST Cyber Security framework. The ideal candidate will possess technical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and excellent organizational skills to contribute to this high-performing team and further enhance the agency’s security maturity.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Cyber Security Operations, the selected candidate’s duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with Cyber Security Forms and engage users to streamline request and approval processes.
  • Support security efforts through the development and application of systemic risk categories across critical infrastructure domains.
  • Assist with malware analytics, risk management, and testing.
  • Provide recommendations to the CyberSecurity team for improving customer service and internal processes.
  • Recognize problems by identifying abnormalities and report security violations.
  • Assist with the implementation of security improvements.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas and feedback.
  • Assist on special projects and other tasks/duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university, or law school.

Salary

Min: $17.90
Max: $26.73
