Credit Risk Senior Manager | Marqeta

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Marqeta, performed remotely in the United States, in one of our Premium, National, or Premium Plus locations. Marqeta offers a card issuing platform that provides unprecedented flexibility and control for companies to issue cards, authorize transactions, and manage payment operations in real time. This role is crucial for launching and scaling credit programs from the ground up, establishing best-in-class credit strategies in the embedded credit space, and creating a unique marketplace that enables fintech apps, wallets, and merchants to offer credit products at scale.

• Mission: Lead Marqeta’s credit risk and pricing strategy to launch and scale credit programs within evolving managed credit card offerings.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Credit Strategy & Policy: Own end-to-end credit strategy initiatives, from framework design through implementation and ongoing monitoring, adjusting policies based on portfolio performance and risk trends.
• Modeling & Data: Partner with data scientists to build best-in-class credit risk and cash flow models and develop modern credit stacks leveraging diverse datasets for underwriting automation.
• Capital Markets & Partners: Provide analytical support for capital markets activities, including securitization structures, warehouse lines, and forward flow deals, and offer loss forecasts and profitability analysis to co-brand partners.
• Governance & Reporting: Draft underwriting and risk documentation, support bank partners on model validation and governance, and regularly report KPIs and risk performance to senior management.
• Advisory & Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as a risk consultant to bank partners and customers, recommending improvements to credit strategies, and collaborate as an internal strategic resource and external-facing advisor.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Math, or a related field; a Senior Manager level role.
• Experience: 8+ years building credit card risk and pricing programs, ideally at a fintech, across consumer and/or commercial underwriting, with proven ownership across the full credit card lifecycle including policy development, approval, line assignment, pricing strategy, risk assessments, and acquisition strategy.
• Skills: Expert in Excel and SQL modeling, comfortable using data to build alignment across stakeholders, and exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) to translate complex credit concepts for executive, partner, and cross-functional audiences.
• Bonus: Comfortable in a build environment, moving fluidly between strategy and execution without a large supporting team, and demonstrated ability to adapt credit strategies in response to portfolio performance changes or macroeconomic conditions.
