Corporate Accounting Intern (Summer 2027) | Battelle

The Tone:
This is an internship at Battelle, located hybrid (60% on-site, 40% remote) in Columbus, Ohio. The TL;DR

• Team: Cross-functional, interacting with technical staff, Legal, Finance, and Treasury.
• Mission: To perform educational and meaningful corporate accounting assignments with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring compliance and supporting Battelle’s financial operations.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile: Perform assigned general ledger reconciliations, including the analysis and research of outstanding items.
• Close: Assist with the financial close process, specifically preparing and recording journal entries for assigned entities.
• Analyze: Assist with monthly financial statement variance analysis for assigned entities.
• Review: Review and analyze Accounts Receivables, and communicate findings appropriately to relevant stakeholders.
• Comply: Ensure compliance with applicable internal controls and confirm accounting procedures align with Battelle guidelines, federal, state, and local laws, and acceptable accounting standards.
• Support: Work with various areas within the organization to ensure that transactions are reflected accurately and timely, and assist with research of technical accounting issues.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be in junior standing or higher, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are required; related paid or unpaid work experience is preferred.
• Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; solid verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; a positive attitude and willingness to take on technical challenges; must be a U.S. Person as defined by U.S. export control laws.
