Consulting Services Intern | AECOM

The Tone:
This is an internship at AECOM, located in New York City, New York, with a hybrid work model. AECOM is a leading infrastructure consulting firm dedicated to “delivering a better world” by tackling complex challenges and building lasting legacies globally. This role contributes to projects that address critical issues such as equitable economic development, real estate, and climate advisory services, directly impacting communities and the built environment. As an intern, you will contribute to meaningful projects that shape cities and improve daily life through strategic advisory.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)
• Pay: $25–$33 hourly
• Team: Advisory business line, collaborating with interns, junior staff, and senior managers.
• Mission: Contribute to advisory projects addressing economic development, real estate, climate, and diversification challenges to shape communities.
• Tech Stack: ArcGIS, STATA, R, Python, Costar, EMSI, ESRI Business Analyst, BLS, RIMS II, IMPLAN, REMI, Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Contribution: Apply standard techniques and procedures to entry-level consulting assignments.
• Information Gathering: Collect, research, organize, and synthesize data for diverse community-based, regional, and national clients.
• Methodology Adaptation: Exercise limited judgment in selecting and adapting methodologies for project tasks.
• Financial Analysis: Develop pro forma models to determine financial feasibility of real estate projects.
• Impact Assessment: Conduct economic and fiscal impact analyses for policy and development efforts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree (3 years completed) or recent graduate planning master’s degree, in Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Finance, Business, Real Estate, Environmental Science, Climate and Sustainability, or a related field.
• Experience: Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis for economic/community development, equity, housing, public finance, or resilience. Experience building real estate cashflow models in Excel.
• Skills: Critical thinking, policy analysis, effective writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Technical skills in spatial analysis (ArcGIS), statistical programs (STATA, R, Python), data visualization, or economic impact modeling (RIMS II, IMPLAN, REMI).
• Bonus: Current enrollment in a master’s degree program in Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Business, Real Estate, Finance, Environmental Science, Climate and Sustainability, or a related field.
