Consultant (Public Sector) | MGO (Macias Gini & O’Connell LLP)
The Tone:
This is an entry-level Consultant role at MGO, located in Chicago, IL, Irvine, CA, or Walnut Creek, CA (Hybrid). MGO is a nationally recognized CPA and advisory firm with over 500 professionals worldwide, dedicated to empowering its people to make a significant impact for clients like state and local governments. In this role, you will contribute directly to high-quality client service on public sector advisory engagements, supporting state and local government entities while developing essential technical and professional skills.

• Pay: $70000–$90000 yearly
• Team: Supports public sector advisory engagements, working collaboratively with consultants, senior consultants, and managers under the direction of senior team members.
• Mission: This person executes project tasks, conducts analysis, and develops technical and professional skills to contribute to high-quality client service across internal audit and management consulting engagements for public sector entities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Delivery: Assist with the delivery of public sector advisory engagements under the guidance of senior team members.
• Data & Analysis: Perform data analysis, testing, documentation, interviews, and walkthroughs to support audit and consulting objectives.
• Reporting & Deliverables: Prepare workpapers, sections of reports, and client-ready deliverables according to MGO standards.
• Project Management: Track tasks, timelines, and deliverables to support on-time and on-budget project completion.
• Advisory Support: Support internal and performance audits, business process and internal control assessments, and operational or efficiency studies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related field, with an interest in public sector consulting or government advisory work.
• Experience: 0–2 years of experience, with internship or relevant professional experience preferred. Willingness to travel up to 5–25% is required.
• Skills: Strong analytical, writing, and organizational skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree is a plus, as is a willingness to obtain a professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CFE, PMP, CISA, or similar.
