Hourigan is seeking a Construction Management Intern for a summer internship. This role is designed for motivated individuals with a genuine interest in the construction industry. The internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience across various critical areas within construction management. Depending on the specific placement, interns may spend their time in one of the following key departments: field management, project management, preconstruction services, virtual design & construction coordination, and safety. The internship typically requires working approximately 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities and learning opportunities include:

Project Management: Delving into essential aspects of project management, such as understanding project finances, maintaining crucial contract documents, issuing subcontracts, preparing detailed submittal schedules, coordinating meetings, managing Requests for Information (RFIs), and handling change order requests.
Safety and Quality Control: Exploring the significant value and importance of Safety and Quality Control programs. This involves learning how to coordinate actions to effectively address problems, creating safety procedures, conducting first-hand audit procedures, and performing safety inspections on job sites.
Field Management: Gaining practical, hands-on experience in field management, learning what is required to lead all on-site activities throughout the construction process to ensure successful project delivery on time and within budget.
Preconstruction Process: Understanding the numerous variables involved in the preconstruction phase by assisting with the preparation of bid packages, evaluating subcontractor bids, reviewing proposals and specifications, analyzing drawings, and executing material takeoffs.
Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Coordination: Getting a front-row seat to the latest technologies utilized in both preconstruction and the building construction process. This includes learning how to create, edit, and run clash detection on three-dimensional Building Information Models (BIM) which encompass structure, interior, external architectural elements, and Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, using various applications such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Revit.
Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) Participation: Actively participating in the Hourigan Safety and Health Management System by committing to safe work practices, raising concerns about potential hazards, attending and applying safety and health training, and working to eliminate hazards within one’s capability and control with the support of safety staff.

Qualifications and Experience for this internship include:

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in construction management, engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrating a genuine and strong interest in the construction industry.
• Possessing a keen desire to learn and an eagerness to embrace new challenges.
• Availability to work approximately 40 hours per week for the duration of the summer internship.
