Construction Intern | M/I Homes, Inc.

This is an internship at M/I Homes, Inc., located in Cincinnati, OH. This role is essential for assisting the Construction Manager in coordinating on-site construction activities, monitoring project phases, and ensuring homes meet quality and completion standards, directly contributing to the company’s commitment to delivering dreams to homeowners.

• Mission: To assist in coordinating on-site construction activities and monitoring the completion of construction phases for new homes.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Monitoring: Inspect assigned homes during various construction phases to ensure workflow, quality, and timely completion.
• Coordination: Assist in scheduling subcontractors and overseeing the completion of their work, including the delivery and use of necessary materials and equipment.
• Communication: Act as a liaison, monitoring work quality and progress of subcontractors and reporting any issues or problems to construction management staff.
• Site Management: Perform minor repairs such as paint touch-ups, caulking, trim work, and appliance checks before pre-settlement inspections.
• Site Environment: Ensure a clean and safe work environment by removing debris from common areas and maintaining the cleanliness of homes under construction.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level role for candidates actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Construction Management.
• Experience: Possession of a valid driver’s license is required due to travel demands.
• Skills:
• Technical knowledge in construction, including carpentry, blueprint reading, and use of hand and power tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on customer service.
• Ability to adapt, coordinate multiple activities simultaneously, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Bonus: Knowledge and understanding of the home building industry, including building codes, regulations, and construction processes; possessing a technical and mechanical aptitude.
