Job description, detailed
This is an internship opportunity for college students (rising Juniors and Seniors) for the summer of 2025 in Los Angeles, CA. The internship offers advance consideration for Shawmut’s CMST program post-graduation. The ability to build strong relationships is crucial for these hands-on roles, which will involve working closely with established project teams, providing an excellent introduction to the construction industry and Shawmut’s culture.
Responsibilities
Depending on business needs, the internship will support one of three areas: Project Management, Estimating, or Field Work.
• APM (Assistant Project Management Intern)
As a Project Management intern, you will assist in daily project management activities to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Typical responsibilities include managing submittals and RFIs, tracking procurement and change order documentation, and assisting in project close-out.
• Estimating Intern
As an Estimating intern, you will work with the Estimating and Preconstruction team to develop estimates and budgets for clients. This role involves working with subcontractors to ensure proper pricing and coverage for projects, assisting in scope writing for various trades, and attending bid reviews with internal partners.
• Asst Super (Assistant Superintendent / Field Intern)
As a Field intern, you will work closely with an experienced Superintendent on a local job site. Field interns often manage daily reports, assist in monitoring and enforcing site safety protocols, and coordinate punch list activities.
Qualifications
• A rising Junior or Senior working towards a degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Construction, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. While these are the most relevant, there are no specific major requirements.
