As a Construction Design/Build Project Manager (DBM) Intern/Co-op, you’ll embark on a journey that exposes you to the full lifecycle of a project. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who are genuinely invested in your growth, gaining invaluable industry knowledge and building a strong foundation for a future in construction.

A Day in the Life: What You’ll Learn & Do

Every day brings a new lesson as you dive deep into the world of design/build project management. You can expect to gain hands-on exposure and learn through observation and active participation in key project phases:

Project Lifecycle Mastery: Gain a comprehensive understanding of how ARCO manages projects from the initial concept through final delivery.
Pre-Construction & Planning:
Estimating and Takeoffs: Learn to accurately describe project proposals and assign precise dollar values.
Scheduling: Assist in creating detailed timelines for subcontractor and trade activities.
Design Meetings: Attend critical meetings with owners and the entire design team, including structural engineers and architects.
Project Execution & Support:
Reporting: Prepare weekly progress reports, meticulously document project advancements, and track meeting action items.
Shadowing: Join project calls and site meetings to observe how our expert Design/Build Managers lead and troubleshoot.
Buyout Process: Send out bid instructions, schedules, and drawings to subcontractors; evaluate proposals; and assist with awarding subcontracts.
Permitting: Complete and submit permit applications, including necessary documents and fees, to city, county, and fire authorities.
Shop Drawing & Submittal Review: Receive and route submittals to DBMs and communicate approvals to subcontractors.
Billing & Financials: Learn about subcontracts, change orders, pay requests, and pay applications.
On-Site Experience:
Job Site Visits: Regularly visit job sites with DBMs to monitor project progress firsthand.
Professional Development:
Training & Learning: Attend offsite trainings and biweekly learning sessions provided by our dedicated Learning and Development team.
Business Development: Gain exposure to how we build strong client relationships and implement industry-wide business development strategies.

Necessary Qualifications

We’re looking for motivated individuals ready to contribute and grow:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Construction Management, Building Science, or Construction Engineering undergraduate or graduate program (other related engineering majors will be considered).
• Possess excellent verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.
Previous Co-op or Intern experience in construction is preferred, but not required.
A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred, but not required.
