Compensation Consultant | Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance, located in Boston, MA or Springfield, MA. This Compensation Consultant role is crucial for developing, coordinating, and administering a variety of broad-based compensation programs and activities. You will provide strategic consultation to assigned business groups, partnering across Human Resources to align guidance and solutions with business needs and talent strategies.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Advisor: Serve as a trusted advisor to HR and leaders on pay practices, translating market data, policy, and compliance considerations into clear, practical guidance, and delivering manager/HR enablement.
• Job Architecture: Advise client leaders on job architecture decisions by leading job catalog reviews, providing recommendations on role leveling, classification, and job/organizational design.
• Compensation Solutions: Create tailored total compensation solutions for offer and pay decisions, typically mid-management and above, by identifying options, tradeoffs, and impact.
• Planning Facilitation: Facilitate annual compensation planning with HR partners and business leaders of assigned client groups, identifying process improvements and providing data, insights, and recommendations.
• Governance: Provide governance through Workday approvals for promotions, off-cycle adjustments, and offers, ensuring decisions are policy-aligned, well-documented, and consistent.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree; professional with 8+ years of Human Resources experience, with 6+ years specifically in compensation.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in providing consultative partnership to HR and business team members; proven focus on continuous improvement and efficiencies beyond own scope of responsibility.
• Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills with attention to detail; creativity and problem-solving skills; strong collaborative working style.
• Bonus: CCP, GRP, CECP, or CSCP certification; experience managing compensation programs in large organizations across diverse functions and levels; experience with HRIS systems, specifically Workday.
