What We Look For In a College Math Tutor

  • Advanced Subject Mastery:
    • Deep knowledge of college-level algebra, functions and graphs, trigonometric concepts, introductory statistics, finite mathematics, linear programming, and mathematical modeling.
    • Ability to explain quantitative reasoning, set theory, logic, and probability.

  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
    • Familiarity with college math curricula, including liberal arts math and quantitative reasoning courses.
    • Understands common student challenges in areas like function notation, basic probability, and interpreting statistical graphs.
    • Ability to adapt instruction using real-world contexts, technology tools, and scaffolded problem sets to support adult learners and students with varying mathematical backgrounds.
  • Effective Teaching Methods:
    • Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches.
    • Capacity to adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Possess excellent communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
