Job Description: Co-op – Project Management (Bridge Projects)
This co-op opportunity at Amtrak offers experience in project management within the rail industry, focusing on major bridge projects. The position involves working under the supervision of a project/program manager and collaborating with various stakeholders, including department leaders, other project managers, analysts, and functional leads.
Essential Functions:
• Technical Reviews: Performing technical reviews of design submissions (plans, calculations, specifications) to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Safety Reviews: Reviewing safety site-specific work plans to guarantee safe construction and field operations.
• Financial Analysis: Analyzing change orders, cost estimates, and invoices; preparing justifications for submission to procurement or for negotiations.
• Safety Audits: Conducting safety audits and field oversight of contractors and project construction activities.
• Project Reporting: Supporting the project team with status reporting, documentation, controls, and processes to ensure compliance with audit requirements and standards.
• Documentation: Creating and maintaining project documentation, including organization charts, distribution lists, logs, schedules, requirements documents, budgets, and reports.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders (customer service, operations, planning, real estate, engineering, transportation agencies, FRA, etc.) to define project needs and priorities.
• Invoice Processing: Reviewing and processing contractor and vendor invoices for accuracy and timeliness.
• Logistics: Coordinating project logistics, including calendars, events, meetings, and presentations.
• Scheduling: Assisting in developing an integrated master schedule for the project using standard tools.
• Other Duties: Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Actively pursuing a degree at an accredited institution.
• Undergraduate/graduate degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• At least 3 years of completed undergraduate studies or senior status (Fall 2025 minimum).
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Relevant work experience (internships, co-ops, etc.)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)
• Valid driver’s license
Compensation:
The hourly range is $17.50 – $35.00 per hour, based on factors like school year and program of study. The position also includes Amtrak rail pass privileges and one PTO day per academic year. The summer 2025 program begins May 19th, but spring/summer positions may also be considered.
