CNN Weather Intern Description:

This paid summer internship ($19/hour) with CNN Weather and Climate is located in either New York City or Atlanta. The intern will work a hybrid schedule, spending a regular cadence in the office based on their manager’s schedule. The internship runs for 11 weeks with two start date options: June 2nd – August 15th or June 9th – August 22nd. Interns will work 35-40 hours per week. Relocation is not provided.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the production of weather and climate content across various CNN platforms (on-air, digital, video, written).
• Research weather, climate, and science-related stories and provide information to the department.
• Learn weather graphics software and create elements for on-air and digital use.
• Participate in breaking weather and news coverage.
• Record a demo reel.

Currently pursuings:

• Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or science-related journalism major at an accredited university.
• Interest in a career in weather or climate communications.
• Self-starter with engagement in weather and climate media.
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal, video).
• Ability to research, write, produce, and report scientific news and weather/climate stories.
• Avid consumer of weather and news across various media (articles, TV, social media).
• Ability to explain complex scientific processes in a non-technical way.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university (proof required).
• Rising junior or senior (18 years or older).
• 3.0 GPA or above.
• US work authorization without need for sponsorship. (Candidates on student or exchange visas are ineligible).

Preferred Currently pursuings:

• Links to published work (writing portfolio, articles, demo reel).
• Experience with weather graphic software.
• Experience writing science-related articles in a non-academic setting.
• Experience with media organizations, school newspapers, or campus TV stations.

Application Information:

The application deadline is February 28th, but early submission is encouraged due to anticipated high application volume. Interviewing will occur from February to mid-April. Due to volume, individual status updates are not provided.
