College Intern | City of Hollywood, Florida
The Tone:
This is an internship position at the City of Hollywood, Florida, a fast-growing, culturally-diverse, beachfront community. The City serves roughly 153,000 residents as Broward’s third-largest municipality, managing approximately 30 square miles. Interns contribute to municipal government by gaining practical experience across various departments and assisting with diverse projects, directly giving back to the community. This role involves moderately complex clerical and administrative duties, including non-routine matters and public contact.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Respond to Inquiries: Greet the public, respond to telephone and in-person inquiries, provide information on departmental services, and direct callers as necessary.
• Gather and Organize Data: Assist in collecting and compiling information for department-related programs and projects.
• Manage Office Systems: Operate various office equipment and maintain comprehensive filing systems for correspondence, forms, permits, reports, and records.
• Support Office Operations: Open, sort, and distribute incoming correspondence, supplies, and equipment to ensure smooth departmental flow.
• Learn and Contribute: Shadow experienced staff to gain insights into city operations and participate in meetings by taking notes and contributing to discussions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, or recently graduated, having completed at least one year of coursework in public administration, finance, engineering, human resources, or related fields. High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience: Minimum of 36 college credits completed.
• Skills: Proficiency in operating standard office equipment including a computer, photocopier, and telephone; ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues and supervisors; and strong organizational skills for managing filing systems and correspondence.
