Claim Legal Internship | RLI

The Tone:
This is an internship at RLI, located in Chicago, IL. RLI is a specialty insurance company known for its unique business model, strong financial performance, and underwriting for profit. In this role, the intern will gain hands-on experience by helping resolve claims, conducting legal research, and interacting with the company’s legal partners to optimize outcomes. The internship provides insight into corporate legal issues and a broad understanding of the RLI business through real-world experience.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist Claim professionals: Provide support through legal research and various claim-related projects.
• Understand claim handling: Participate in meetings and discussions to grasp claim handling processes and considerations.
• Gain broad exposure: Rotate through different Claim teams, including General Liability, Director & Officer Liability, and Professional Liability.
• Complete assigned tasks: Fulfill project-based assignments as directed by the team.
• Develop team skills: Work closely with experienced professionals and fellow interns to build knowledge and team-building capabilities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current law student interested in gaining experience in an insurance or claim handling setting.
• Experience: No specific years required, but a desire to gain practical industry knowledge is essential.
• Skills: Ability to conduct thorough legal research, analyze and resolve basic issues utilizing critical thinking, and clearly and effectively communicate with others.
• Bonus: Ability to work independently, demonstrate integrity, and show reliability.
