About the Job: Civil Engineering Intern or Co-op

Langan is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern or Co-op to join its team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This role is designed to provide significant support for the firm’s operations and offers substantial learning opportunities.

Job Summary/Function:
This individual will serve a key function in supporting site feasibility studies. The role will involve a variety of tasks including field work, technical report preparation and calculations, pre-construction conditions documentation, and the development of design plans and specifications. Interns/Co-ops will have the opportunity to expand their technical and professional knowledge and experience by partnering directly with industry leadership on a diverse range of land development projects.

Job Responsibilities (Detailed):
Project Support: Assist with the planning, design, and permitting processes for civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects.
Document Preparation: Help prepare and modify various engineering documents, including reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans.
Software Usage: Utilize engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other equipment for project tasks.
Data Analysis: Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess crucial environmental and geological data (soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, topographical, and geologic data) and understand their impact on project planning and design.
Feasibility Studies: Support zoning, ordinance, and permit assessments; assist with sidewalk cost estimations; and help determine project feasibility based on collected data analysis.
Field Work: Provide field inspection services as needed.
Technical Application: Apply knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics to project tasks.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members on project tasks and assignments.
General Duties: Perform other duties as requested to support the team.

Qualifications:
Education: Must be a student actively pursuing a four-year or advanced degree in Civil Engineering.
Academic Standing: A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred.
Technical Skills: Possess a working knowledge of AutoCAD or Civil 3D, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical Skills: Exhibit strong attention to detail combined with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
Work Ethic: Be able to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
Logistics: Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits, along with a valid driver’s license in good standing.
