Civil Engineer – Energy Practice

Ardurra is actively seeking a talented and motivated Civil Engineer to join our expanding energy practice in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to contribute to significant infrastructure projects and grow within a supportive, dynamic environment.

Our civil and environmental engineering teams are committed to developing innovative design plans that meet stringent schedules while minimizing impact on communities during construction. Our projects thoughtfully consider future energy demands on utility provider systems and operations, as well as essential requirements for the continued maintenance of critical infrastructure such as gas lines, overhead transmission lines, distribution facilities, and solar sites.

The successful Civil Engineer will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality site design, comprehensive planning and permitting, and diligent oversight of construction. This work will serve a diverse client base, including major utilities. Additionally, this position offers the potential to contribute to top-tier land development projects, broadening your experience and skill set.

This role provides a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing practice, benefit from mentorship provided by experienced staff and leadership, and collaborate closely with other firm practices, particularly our Land Development team.

Primary Function

Perform critical support for a wide range of engineering tasks, including detailed design work, research, and the preparation of drawings and designs. These tasks encompass site layout, pipeline design, transmission line site development, horizontal utility projects, and site grading and drainage, along with associated permitting and planning efforts. The work will cater to both public utilities and private clients.

The position also involves supporting and learning the environmental and regulatory framework relevant to projects, engaging with regulatory bodies, and assisting with construction administration for both public and private land development initiatives.

Primary Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive reports, professional opinions, and strategic recommendations for the benefit of our clients.
  • Conduct experiments and precise data collection, with a strong emphasis on maintaining data integrity, quality control, and strict protocol compliance. This includes utilizing advanced data acquisition/recording equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assist in the development of project concept designs and actively participate in the final project design phases.
  • Provide construction oversight on infrastructure construction and land development projects, involving careful observation of progress and quality of work, diligent writing of daily construction reports, thorough review of monthly pay requests, and keeping client owners consistently advised as necessary.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
  • 0+ years of experience; internship experience is highly valued and will be a significant advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to function efficiently and collaboratively within a project team environment.
  • Comfort and proficiency with AutoCAD and other design software, preferably including Civil3D.
