Job Title: Cashier

Job Summary

As a Cashier, you will be the front-line representative of our company, embodying our brand and image. Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Proactively engage and connect with customers.
  • Ask questions and actively listen to understand customer needs.
  • Direct customers to merchandise, inform them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, and the STAR card.
  • Provide premier customer service.
  • Cooperate and build positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships.
  • Take accountability for your own actions and outcomes.

Organization

  • Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the check-out area.
  • Move and re-stock bags, packaging materials, and labels as needed.

Sales

  • Interact with customers to ensure they found everything they needed.
  • Make personalized suggestions to customers on the latest trends and current promotions based on their individual needs.
  • Utilize a Point-of-Sales (POS) system for processing various transactions, including cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, and debit cards.
  • Handle cash accurately, including counting money and providing correct change to customers.
  • Maintain change funds and meticulously account for sales receipts.
  • Complete various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation processes.

Inventory

  • Act as the keeper of merchandise, ensuring all inventory processes are completed thoroughly.
  • Verify merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed.
  • May participate in periodic inventory counts.

Dependability

  • Adhere strictly to the assigned work schedule.
  • Ensure accurate and complete follow-through on all work assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Product Knowledge

  • Demonstrated understanding of the products and services offered.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of Point-of-Sale (POS) systems.

Experience

  • Retail or relevant work experience is preferred but not required.
  • No experience required.

Communication Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management.
  • Ability to communicate professionally on the telephone with proper etiquette.

Mathematical Skills

  • Proficiency in basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to use a calculator and calculate percentages.
  • Must be able to accurately make change in American monetary units.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to multi-task effectively while remaining attentive to customers and flexible to the needs of the business.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative independent of direct supervision.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing, and standing for at least two consecutive hours. Occasionally, it may involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role involves lifting at least 25 lbs., and up to 50 lbs. in some departments. Work is typically performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending upon location.

Education
