Buying Intern | Burlington Stores

The Tone:
This is a Buying Intern position at Burlington Stores, located in Los Angeles, California, operating on a hybrid model. Burlington Stores is a leading off-price retailer, offering a wide range of clothing, baby items, and home goods. This internship provides a foundational experience in retail buying, mirroring the day-to-day of a full-time associate. It’s an opportunity to contribute directly to merchandise selection and planning, setting the stage for a future career in retail buying.

• Team: Part of a divisional buying team, reporting to and mentored by an Assistant Buyer.
• Mission: Support the buying team in selecting and planning merchandise to meet customer demand and achieve competitive pricing within the off-price retail sector.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Merchandise Management: Support the buying team in merchandise selection, negotiation, and pricing for a specific division.
• Product Planning & Promotion: Assist in assortment and category planning to meet customer demand, and coordinate product availability for advertising and promotional activities.
• Market Research & Analysis: Prepare trend boards for strategy meetings by researching current and upcoming trends for seasonal buys, and identify product opportunities during competitive shopping visits.
• Supply Chain Coordination: Update and track purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of products, contributing to efficient inventory flow.
• Vendor Engagement & Negotiation: Travel to market visits 1-2 days per week to visit vendors, assisting in the selection and negotiation of competitively priced products that align with customer demands.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Merchandising and/or Business, graduating between December 2026 and August 2027, with an early career level affinity for retail math, product/merchandising, and building a career in Buying.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a basic understanding of other Microsoft Office programs.
• Skills: Data-driven problem-solver with the ability to build and maintain productive partnerships, possessing strong critical thinking, high attention to detail, and effective listening, oral, and written communication skills.
• Bonus: A self-starter who takes initiative, demonstrating curiosity, adaptability, and the courage to continuously learn and grow in the business, along with the ability to travel frequently and regularly for business activities primarily within the Greater Los Angeles area, requiring reliable transportation.
