The National Education Association (NEA) is a large organization that partners with institutions of higher education and other organizations to support public education. This internship is within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer’s Business Transformation & Strategy team at NEA Headquarters in Washington, DC. The NEA’s mission focuses on the promotion of public education for its 3 million members.
Job Description: Business Transformation Intern (Summer 2025)
Position Type: Intern (Fixed Term), Short-Term Temp
Duration: June 9, 2025 – August 14, 2025 (6-12 weeks, up to 20 hours/week)
Compensation: $20/hour
Location: NEA Headquarters, Washington, DC (On-site or hybrid)
Summary: The NEA is seeking a Business Transformation Intern to assist in the implementation of its first enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to a significant organizational project and gain practical experience in a dynamic environment. The internship is open to college juniors, seniors, graduate students, or recent graduates (up to 18 months post-graduation).
Responsibilities: The intern will work collaboratively with NEA staff, participating in various projects and learning experiences, including:
• Perform Integration Testing: Assist in testing system integrations to ensure seamless functionality.
• Support System Implementation Activities: Contribute to system deployment, including end-user training, configuration management, testing, data migration, and cutover.
• Quality Assurance (QA) of Documentation: Review and verify the accuracy of functional and technical documentation.
• Create User Adoption Presentations: Develop presentations to support user training and adoption.
• Collect User Feedback: Gather insights and feedback from end users.
• Update Project Management Tools: Maintain and update tools like Jira and Azure DevOps.
• Conduct Research & Data Analysis: Participate in research and data analysis tasks related to the ERP implementation.
• Writing, Editing & Communication: Create written documentation and participate in other communication-related tasks.
• Participation in NEA Activities: Attend meetings, events (including potentially Representative Assembly events, Board meetings, or policy forums), and potentially participate in interviews with NEA leadership.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Keen eye for detail and strong critical thinking abilities.
• Ability to produce high-quality written documentation and provide constructive feedback on others’ work.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and experience with project management tools (SmartSheet is a plus).
• A writing sample is required with the application.
Preferred Skills & Experience (not required):
• No prior IT background is required. However, experience in any of these fields is a plus: Business Administration, Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Data Analytics, Operations Management, Communications, Technical Writing, Project Management, or Software Engineering.
