Senior Associate – Business Analyst | New York Life Insurance Company
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at New York Life Insurance Company, located in New York, NY (Hybrid, 3 days per week). New York Life is a Fortune 100 mutual company with a 180-year legacy, evolving into a technology-, data-, and AI-enabled organization focused on providing financial security through life insurance and related services. This foundational role on a newly formed Discovery team is critical for uncovering, documenting, and analyzing existing business processes that support policy administration and operations. The work will capture institutional knowledge and provide clarity to enable significant modernization, simplification, and system replacement efforts.

• Mission: Establish a clear and shared understanding of current operational processes to identify opportunities for modernization, simplification, and system replacement.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Business Process Discovery: Lead the discovery of existing end-to-end business processes across both legacy and modern systems through interviews, workshops, and working sessions with SMEs.
• Documentation & Analysis: Document “as-is” processes, workflows, decision points, and exceptions, then analyze them to identify complexity, duplication, risk, and inefficiency.
• Knowledge Enablement: Produce clear, structured artifacts such as process maps, narratives, and inventories that can be consumed by product teams, architects, QA, and leadership.
• Modernization Support: Provide factual process context to support downstream modernization activities, including system replacement decisions, decommissioning strategies, and migration planning.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Build trusted relationships with technical, business, and service partners, translating complex operational behavior into clear, technology-agnostic language for diverse audiences.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level professional with core domain knowledge in Life Insurance or a similar industry.
• Experience: 7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Process Analyst, or similar role, with 4+ years in life insurance. Demonstrated experience in business process discovery and documentation, and working with legacy systems in large enterprise environments.
• Skills: Strong facilitation and interviewing skills, especially with SMEs and operations teams; ability to synthesize complex, ambiguous information into clear artifacts; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience in financial services or regulated industries; familiarity with policy administration, servicing, underwriting, billing, or claims processes; experience supporting large-scale modernization or transformation programs; comfort operating without predefined requirements or solutions.
