Job Description: Business/Accountant/Finance Intern (Un-paid Internship)
This un-paid internship at La Jolla LASIK Institute offers a significant learning opportunity for an individual passionate about numbers, metrics, and making a tangible impact on a growing company. The position is designed to help the intern learn to manage and lead a finance team, playing a vital role in the company’s financial reporting and decision-making as it experiences significant growth. Interns have previously participated in the Academic Internship Program (AIP) and received credit through UCSD.
Key Learning Opportunities & Responsibilities:
• Develop, create, and track daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Ensure all electronic and paper filing systems are current and well organized.
• Create a new budgeting process that also tracks actual expenses.
• Analyze current software, recommend any changes, and implement recommendations.
• Work with the bookkeeper to ensure the accuracy of financial statements.
• Complete special projects and additional duties as required.
• The intern will have the opportunity to learn to make and implement many of the above decisions independently once competency is demonstrated to senior management.
• Assist the clinic with administrative tasks, such as organizing patient ledgers.

Required & Desired Qualifications:
• Major Preferred: Accounting, Economics, Management Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Rady MBA, Master Business Analytics, Master Finance, Leadership of Healthcare Organizations, Data Science and Engineering, Master Business Administration, Master of Finance, Graduate Students, Grad student, Applied Math, Data Science.
• Minor Desired: Accounting, Business, Management Science, Math-Computer Science, Mathematics (Applied), Economics, Mathematics Education, Mathematics.
• Strong ability in Excel is essential.
• Experience with QuickBooks is a plus but not required.
• Previous experience in accounting is desired.
• Great communication skills are important.
• Excellent analytic skills and strong attention to detail are critical.
• Strong computer skills, specifically with GSuite programs.
