Job Title: Built Environment and Climate Graduate Intern
About the Opportunity
This internship is with the Multnomah County Health Department, specifically within the Public Health Division. Multnomah County is dedicated to advancing health equity, protecting vulnerable populations, and promoting health and wellness for everyone, guided by values of Compassion and Care, Empowerment, Racial Equity, Creativity, and Integrity. The Public Health Division plays a vital role in residents’ well-being through functions like disease prevention, maternal and child health support, addressing mental health and substance use, environmental health, and promoting health equity.
The Built Environment and Climate Graduate Intern will contribute to the Healthy Homes and Communities team. This role focuses on fulfilling core public health functions related to promoting healthy land use and transportation planning, as well as addressing the health impacts of climate change.

Key Responsibilities
As the Built Environment and Climate Graduate Intern, your work will include:
- Assisting team members in gathering and analyzing information to accelerate the implementation of the Climate and Health Resilience Plan and built environment work plan.
- Analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, summarizing findings in reports, and assisting in gathering primary data.
- Supporting team members in designing and implementing community engagement plans, which may include surveys, focus groups, key informant interviews, and outreach events.
- Preparing materials and coordinating events that help disseminate research and assessment findings.
Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications
We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying.
- Education/Training: Enrollment in an accredited institution leading to a post-graduate degree or equivalent program.
- Experience: One (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills
While not required to qualify, these skills may be considered when identifying the most qualified candidates. Clearly explain how you meet any of these on your application.
- Training or experience in:
- Public health, urban planning, or a related field.
- Quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Community engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Transferable skills: Any skills gained through education, work experience (including military), or life experience relevant to this position. Describe these on your application and explain their applicability.

- Schedule: Flexible up to 40 hours per week. Hours must be within regular business hours, 7am-6pm.
- Work Location: Remote and Lloyd Corporate Plaza.
- Salary/Pay: The listed pay range is for general guidance. Actual compensation will comply with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and consider relevant experience and education. Initial offers may not be at or near the top of the range.
