Bookkeeper/Accounting Assistant | English District – LCMS

What You’ll Actually Do
• Record: Accurately record and post daily financial transactions to maintain up-to-date financial records.
• Maintain: Systematically maintain the general ledger and perform regular reconciliations of bank and other account statements.
• Report: Prepare and update essential financial reports, providing support with budgeting activities and detailed expense tracking.
• Process: Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, including processing invoices, monitoring payment statuses, and ensuring accurate records using accounting software.
• Support: Assist diligently with month-end and year-end closing processes, collaborate on financial queries, support audit preparations, and help ensure compliance with internal policies and financial guidelines.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Relevant education such as an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Foundational understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
• Experience: Demonstrated Bookkeeping skills, including proficiency in transaction posting, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. Experience with Accounting Software and related tools for managing financial and other office data.
• Skills: Strong Accounting skills, encompassing a clear understanding of basic principles and practices. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all data entry and record-keeping tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard office software commonly used in accounting functions. Strong organizational skills, coupled with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet established deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality of financial information.
• Bonus: Previous experience in a nonprofit, faith-based, or small office environment. Willingness to support all staff members and projects.
