Autonomous Technology Documentation & AI Integration Intern | Daimler Truck North America (DTNA)

The Tone:
This is an internship at Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), located in Portland, OR. DTNA is a leader in building cutting-edge solutions for the future of transportation, including autonomous platforms. This role is within the Autonomous Technology Group (ATG), which is at the forefront of developing autonomous trucks to enhance road safety, optimize logistics, and reduce operational costs. This position is instrumental in ensuring that complex technical information about autonomous trucking is easily understood and accessible across the organization and to external partners, directly supporting DTNA’s strategic vision to lead as a mobility and logistics platform provider.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Curate and Structure Technical Documentation: Review and organize autonomous semi-truck specifications into modular, machine-readable formats suitable for AI ingestion.
• Train and Evaluate AI Model: Assist in training language models or retrieval systems to accurately answer user queries based on truck documentation; test and refine model outputs.
• Develop Semantic Search Capabilities: Implement tagging, embedding, and indexing strategies to enable efficient search and retrieval of technical content.
• Collaborate Across Engineering Teams: Work closely with product managers and truck engineers to ensure documentation accuracy and alignment with user needs.
• Foster Inclusive Workplace: Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program or higher from an accredited college/university, or have recently graduated within one year of the position start date (May/June). This role requires core domain knowledge in areas such as knowledge engineering, prompt design, AI model evaluation, dataset curation, and modular documentation structuring.
• Experience: Candidates must have proficiency in Python or a similar coding language for scripting and data parsing. Required experience includes working with Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, understanding vector databases and structured data formats (e.g., JSON, YAML, Markdown), and utilizing Git for version control. Familiarity with documentation platforms like Confluence or Notion, and experience with Agile collaboration methodologies are also necessary.
• Skills: Top hard technical skills include proficiency in Python, experience with NLP tools, and knowledge engineering related to AI model evaluation and dataset curation. Understanding of vector databases and structured data formats is also key.
