Audit Intern | Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District
The Tone:
This is a fixed-term internship at Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD), located in Cleveland, OH, with hybrid eligibility. NEORSD is a regional sewer district responsible for wastewater management and environmental protection. This Audit Intern role provides vital support by performing data and report analysis across finance, accounting, and purchasing systems, gaining hands-on exposure to internal audit assignments and projects. The position is crucial for enhancing the efficiency and integrity of NEORSD’s operational systems and internal controls.

What You’ll Actually Do
• System Data Analysis: Perform detailed data and report analysis in various NEORSD systems, covering finance, accounting, and purchasing functions. This includes using Microsoft tools to efficiently collect, process, and clearly report analytical results.
• Audit Project Support: Assist with the development of comprehensive workflows and work plans for internal audit assignments. This involves exercising sound judgment to prioritize assignments, determine the best course of action for tasks, and consistently maintain a high level of professionalism throughout projects.
• Software Skill Development: Actively develop learning and gain practical experience with specialized internal audit software, specifically ACL and the Diligent Platform. This role requires integrating with and becoming proficient in the software used by the Internal Audit department.
• Departmental Contributions: Provide valuable assistance to the Internal Audit department through various projects. This includes developing a foundational understanding of audit processes and contributing to the preparation of department reporting documents.
• Professional Growth Initiatives: Actively participate in all assigned early talent events. These opportunities include professional development workshops designed to enhance skills, networking sessions to build professional connections, and industry exposure activities to broaden understanding of the field.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be entry-level professionals, currently enrolled in an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree program, or have successfully graduated within the past 24 months at the time of application. The degree pursued or completed must be in Accounting, Finance, Audit, or a closely related field.
• Commitment & Availability: Ability to commit to a fixed-term assignment of 12 months, with an option to extend at NEORSD’s discretion. This role requires working 20-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during normal business hours.
• Essential Skills: Proficiency in using Microsoft tools for data collection and reporting, demonstrated ability to use judgment to prioritize assignments and determine effective courses of action, and a commitment to maintaining professionalism in all tasks.
• Logistical Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is in accordance with the District’s acceptable guidelines is required for this position.
