KPMG is seeking a passionate and driven Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. As an Audit Intern, you will:
Responsibilities:
• Contribute to financial statement audits: Work as part of a team to ensure accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding the principles of objectivity and independence. Your contributions will help serve the capital markets and support the overall effectiveness of client operations.
• Deepen your understanding of client-specific risks: Through review of financial results, relevant external information, current business trends, and client transactions, you will gain valuable insights into the business environment of clients, primarily within the federal government sector.
• Develop strong documentation skills: Learn to prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation that reflects your understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Execute and document testing: With guidance from experienced professionals, you’ll execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, applying appropriate standards and terminology.
• Support high-quality audits: Actively participate in performing assigned tasks and engaging in professional interactions with clients and engagement team members.
• Embrace Data & Analytics: Support the use of Data & Analytics (D&A) throughout the audit, including data extraction and analysis. You will leverage various technologies and tools, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, to execute substantive audit procedures.
Qualifications:
• Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent program.
• CPA Aspirations: Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (state where the office is located) for this position. Note: CPA education requirements are determined by state Boards of Accountancy and may vary. Alternatively, pursuing CPA eligibility in another state is possible through reciprocity if documentation is provided to demonstrate obtaining a CPA license in the principal place of business.
• Academic Performance: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Additional Skills: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred, along with experience with data analysis tools such as Alteryx or Power BI.
• Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a U.S. Federal government security clearance within a reasonable timeframe, which requires U.S. citizenship.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, including generally accepted accounting principles. Familiarity with computer applications, particularly MS Office (especially Excel), and an aptitude for learning KPMG Audit tools and client-specific applications.
• Personal Attributes: Strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills. Ability to demonstrate sound professional judgment, professional skepticism, flexibility, adaptability, leadership qualities, resourcefulness, and project management skills are all valuable assets.
Working Conditions:
• Location: Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office for this position and be able to travel to nearby work locations using personal transportation (car or public transit).
• In-Person Work: Audit professionals are expected to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site on an average of three days per week. Some client site locations may require travel and overnight stays.
• U.S. Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.
