Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This internship offers the opportunity to play an integral role in conducting financial statement audits, primarily for federal government clients. The intern will contribute to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information, upholding principles of objectivity and independence.
Responsibilities:
• Work as part of a team conducting financial statement audits, contributing to the effectiveness of client operations while maintaining professional integrity.
• Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
• Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology (under guidance).
• Support the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
• Support the use of Data and Analytics (D&A) in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. Utilize tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, and prepare related documentation.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (or through reciprocity from another state). Specific requirements vary by state.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred; experience with data analysis tools (Alteryx or Power BI) is also preferred.
• Eligibility for or possession of a U.S. Government Security clearance is required.
• Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (particularly Excel), and the ability to learn KPMG Audit tools and client applications quickly.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication and time management skills, relationship-building abilities, sound professional judgment, professional skepticism, adaptability, and teamwork. Leadership experience and project management skills are a plus.
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed. Work will involve approximately three in-person days per week at a KPMG office or client site.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based sponsorship.
