Assurance Intern – Winter 2027 (Chicago) | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at BDO USA, located in Chicago, IL. • Mission: To assist with various stages of the audit process and provide essential support to audit staff, contributing to BDO’s purpose of being the people clients count on to grow with confidence and achieve what matters most.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Training & Methodology: Participate in a structured on-the-job training program to become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and BDO-specific audit methodology.
• Audit Support: Provide various support functions to the audit staff throughout the engagement lifecycle.
• Client Communication: Communicate with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties regarding audit issues.
• Documentation: Prepare and document work in working papers utilizing BDO specific tools and templates.
• Research & Presentation: Complete an assigned accounting or audit related research project and present findings to a panel of Assurance professionals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting. This is an entry-level internship position.
• Experience: No prior experience is explicitly required for the role, though leadership experience is preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Foundational understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS). Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
• Bonus: Pursuing a masters degree in Accounting. Leadership experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to follow instructions as directed and work effectively in a team setting. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are also highly valued.
