Associate, PE SMA Portfolio Analytics | Apogem Capital

The Tone:
This is a full-time Associate or Senior Associate role at Apogem Capital, located primarily in New York, NY, with an alternate location in Richmond, VA. Apogem Capital is a leading private markets solutions provider, managing approximately $44 billion in assets for institutional investors, and operates within the New York Life Investment Management platform. This role is crucial for supporting the growth of the private equity Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs) platform by delivering advanced portfolio analytics and enhancing portfolio construction insights. The position is high-impact with significant visibility, offering the opportunity to shape analytics capabilities and scale a growing platform.

• Mission: To support the continued growth of Apogem’s private equity Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs) platform by delivering forward-looking and historical portfolio analytics and enhancing portfolio construction insights.
• Tech Stack: Excel, PowerPoint, data systems, database management, private markets technology (e.g., DealCloud, iLevel)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analytics Development: Develop and deliver analytics to support portfolio construction decisions, including investment pacing, position sizing, exposure, and risk management.
• Financial Modeling: Build and maintain cash flow and NAV forecasting models to support SMA planning and liquidity management, including predictive analytics.
• Compliance Monitoring: Monitor deployment pacing across SMA portfolios to ensure adherence to defined investment guidelines and concentration limits.
• Performance Analysis: Perform benchmarking and performance attribution analysis across portfolios and underlying investments, providing actionable insights to leadership.
• Data Management: Oversee data integrity across critical portfolio metrics, including performance, NAV, commitments, unfunded exposure, and cash flows.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Four-year college degree, preferably in finance, data analytics, economics, or accounting, with core domain knowledge in private markets, asset management, fund administration, or accounting.
• Experience: 2–4+ years of relevant experience, demonstrating strong analytical and quantitative skills in portfolio analytics, modeling, and performance analysis.
• Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel, strong PowerPoint skills, high attention to detail, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
• Bonus: Experience with data systems or database management, familiarity with private markets technology (e.g., DealCloud, iLevel), and an interest in leveraging technology to improve processes and build scalable solutions.
