Job Description: Associate, MongoDB Ventures

This role is an early-career position within MongoDB Ventures, the company’s venture capital arm. It’s ideal for someone with a strong technical background and a passion for infrastructure software and AI. While experience in institutional investing is beneficial, the role also provides exposure to MongoDB’s internal operations, including M&A activities. The position requires a strong interest in highly technical products such as databases and streaming platforms.

Responsibilities:

Sourcing Investment Opportunities: Identify and pursue new investment opportunities, representing MongoDB Ventures in meetings with founders and startup executives.
Market Analysis & Trend Identification: Collaborate with MongoDB’s Product and Engineering teams to understand key technology and market trends, creating market maps and investment theses.
Investment Evaluation: Conduct in-depth evaluations of highly technical, infrastructure software companies, producing detailed investment memos and leading internal investment processes.
Portfolio Company Partnerships: Support and develop partnership initiatives with portfolio companies.

Qualifications:

• Location: Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City.
Technical Background: Demonstrated interest in software development and infrastructure software. A technical degree (e.g., Computer Science, Math), prior experience as a software developer, or experience working with infrastructure software companies is required.
Experience: 0-3 years of professional experience in a fast-paced environment (e.g., high-growth startup, investment banking, or consulting).
Technical Aptitude: Strong understanding of technology and its impact on products, business models, and markets.
Networking: Existing interest in and network within early-stage technology companies is a plus.
Teamwork: A collaborative and ownership-oriented mentality.

Success Measures (Time-Based Goals):

Month 1: Understand early-stage venture capital and MongoDB Ventures’ role; build key internal and external relationships.
Month 3: Identify a market focus area, begin outreach, and develop an investment thesis. Continue network expansion.
Month 6: Complete in-depth research on a chosen market area, engage with relevant early-stage companies, and develop a comprehensive thesis outlining key value creation opportunities and ideal company characteristics.
