Associate Staff Accountant | Colliers

This position is vital for supporting the financial operations of a diverse property portfolio, providing a foundational entry point into commercial real estate accounting. The Associate Staff Accountant will gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of accounting, including property, construction, and lease-related accounting functions, contributing to accurate record-keeping and strengthening long-term career growth in a supportive and team-oriented environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Receivable Support: Support tenant accounts receivable, including rent billing, utilities, and other charges.
• Accounts Payable Assistance: Assist with accounts payable activities such as invoice entry, accurate coding, and vendor communication.
• Financial Record Maintenance: Record payments and help ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial records.
• Monthly Close Support: Support monthly close activities, which includes accruals and preparing recurring reports.
• Documentation Management: Help maintain organized financial files and comprehensive documentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate degree in accounting or a related field, providing a solid academic foundation suitable for an early-career accounting professional eager to grow within the commercial real estate sector.
• Experience: Around 1 year of accounting experience or relevant internship, demonstrating practical application of accounting principles.
• Skills: Basic to intermediate Excel proficiency for data management and analysis; a strong aptitude for working with numbers and solving accounting-related problems; a keen sense of detail and organization to manage multiple tasks effectively; clear communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and vendors; and a curious, open mindset for learning new systems and processes.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; prior experience with real estate specific accounting systems such as MRI or Yardi.
