Associate, Energy, Infrastructure, & Transition, Global Investment Banking | CIBC US

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at CIBC US, located in New York, NY. CIBC US is building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world, empowering talented professionals to make a meaningful impact. This role is crucial for delivering investment banking services to existing and prospective clients across the energy, infrastructure, and energy transition sectors, supporting their strategic and financial objectives through M&A, capital markets, and advisory solutions. The Associate will play an integral part in significant transactions and observe and influence clients’ strategic direction.

• Pay: $175000–$225000 yearly
• Team: Energy, Infrastructure, & Transition (EIT) team, reporting to Managing Directors, Executive Directors, or Directors.
• Mission: Complete assignments that help clients achieve their goals and impact CIBC’s bottom line through transaction and financing execution, client relationship support, industry and company research, and global communication flow.
• Tech Stack: CapitalIQ, Refinitiv, FactSet, Bloomberg, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

What You’ll Actually Do
• Execute investment banking mandates for the EIT group across various transaction types.
• Lead the preparation of client proposals, pitches, and the execution of new and existing client mandates, overseeing Analyst work.
• Develop and audit sophisticated financial models to support client recommendations and transaction analyses.
• Conduct comprehensive industry and company research, assisting in the identification and analysis of investment banking opportunities.
• Support senior investment banking colleagues and direct and train Analyst teammates, contributing to cross-functional teams and internal communication.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate degree in Finance, accounting, mathematics, computer science, or economics.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 to 4 years of previous experience in investment banking, corporate finance, or private equity, with demonstrated expertise in meaningful financial modeling and analysis.
• Skills: Excellent analytical ability including valuation techniques, cash flow and returns analyses, knowledge of accounting principles, strong quantitative technical skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment.
• Bonus: Completion of a CA or CFA, MBA or Masters in Finance, working knowledge of power/renewables, utilities, infrastructure, midstream, and/or energy transition sectors, and direct investment banking experience.
