Associate Accounting, Commercial Controllers | Capital One
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Capital One, located in McLean, VA, with other locations available. Capital One is a large financial institution where this role directly supports the Commercial Broker Dealers, registered with FINRA and the SEC. This position is vital for ensuring accurate Accounts Payable operations and general ledger accounting, allowing the Broker Dealers to maintain financial compliance and operational efficiency. The role offers an opportunity to learn core accounting processes within a high-performing team and to contribute to meaningful process improvements.

• Mission: Ensure accurate Accounts Payable operations and general ledger accounting for Capital One’s Commercial Broker Dealers.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Serve as liaison between the line of business and Enterprise Supplier Management to manage Accounts Payable, including onboarding vendors, processing and routing invoices for payment, and tracking contracts and ongoing business expenses.
• Calculate and post accurate month-end expense accruals, prepare general ledger journal entries, and perform account reconciliations.
• Prepare expense variance analysis and assist with reporting for month-end close activities.
• Interact directly with Finance, business partners, internal stakeholders, and associates throughout the Controller’s group.
• Support team automation and data transformation efforts, and actively identify and drive process efficiencies.
• Obtain and maintain a Series 99 Operations Professional license.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level professional with a Bachelor’s Degree, or military experience.
• Experience: At least 1 year of experience in accounting, banking, or securities.
• Skills: General Ledger accounting operations (including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations), Accounts Payable workflows, and expense variance analysis.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, 2+ years of experience in accounting, banking, or securities, hands-on experience managing end-to-end Accounts Payable workflows, or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license/candidate.
