Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Intern | Riverside Research
The Tone:
This is an internship at Riverside Research, located in Dayton, OH. Riverside Research is an independent National Security Nonprofit dedicated to research and development in the national interest, providing high-end technical services and prototype solutions to challenging technical problems for the country. This role offers hands-on experience supporting the AI, Automation, and Augmentation Applications team. The intern will conduct research and algorithm development, analyze intelligence data, and develop automation solutions for customers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Learn to develop innovative machine learning and computer vision solutions to analyze and exploit large, complex datasets from various phenomenologies.
• Support: Support the development of algorithms and associated software tools using C/C++/Python and machine learning libraries like PyTorch and LibTorch.
• Train: Support training AI/ML models and tuning their hyperparameters for given datasets and algorithm objectives.
• Provide: Support providing solutions for data collection and data linting that enable rapid, automated curation of training data.
• Adhere: Adhere to team standards for reviewing source code, unit-testing, source code control, and documentation practices.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related field of study.
• Experience: Knowledge or experience with computer vision and/or AI/ML R&D algorithm development. Python experience, including understanding of language syntax and using a packaging system such as pip or uv.
• Skills: Proficient in collaborative Office 365 tools like MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Self-driven with strong analytic, inferencing, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills. Ability to work closely with subject-matter experts to develop tools, algorithms, and datasets needed for relevant AI/ML prototype algorithms. Ability to communicate highly technical results and methods clearly and succinctly. Willingness and ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
• Bonus: Experience with DoD intelligence production processes and workflows. Experience or knowledge of deep learning computer vision models, including visualization and reasoning about model latent spaces and activation maps to assess model effectiveness or weaknesses. Familiarity with the differences between supervised learning and unsupervised learning techniques.
