Role Description

The Applications Engineering Intern plays a crucial role in delivering engineering services through the practical application of Hexagon’s product suite. This includes a focus on Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) technology, programming, inspection, customer training, and product demonstrations. You will be an integral part of the team, helping customers leverage our solutions to optimize their manufacturing processes.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Master CMM Programming: Undergo comprehensive training in Hexagon’s proprietary CMM programming software through structured classes and self-guided learning.
  • Develop and Execute Programs: Create and run CMM programs for a wide range of manufactured parts, from simple components to those with highly complex geometries, ensuring precision and accuracy.
  • Conduct Customer Training: Prepare and deliver engaging training sessions for customers on CMM machine operations and programming best practices.
  • Provide Technical Support: Offer essential technical support to our customers, both through on-site visits and remote assistance via phone.
  • Problem Solving: Learn to systematically approach challenging technical issues, guiding them from initial problem statement through to successful resolution and follow-up.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering undergraduate, or other related technical degree program.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Expected graduation date in December 2026 or May/June 2027.
  • Comfortable and effective at speaking in front of small groups.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, throughout the summer break.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience or proficiency in programming languages.

Work Environment

  • This is primarily an office-based role, offering occasional opportunities to visit customer sites or Hexagon demonstration facilities.
  • Regular use of computer equipment is expected.
  • Occasional movement around laboratory spaces or factory floors may be required.
  • May involve light lifting (up to 15 lbs) of equipment or demonstration tools.
  • You will thrive in a team-oriented environment that encourages collaborative problem-solving and deep technical engagement.
