AIRPORT OPERATIONS SPECIALIST | Lake Havasu City – Municipal Government

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Lake Havasu City – Municipal Government, located in Lake Havasu City, AZ. As part of the Public Works team, this position ensures the essential safety, security, and efficiency of the municipal airport. The Airport Operations Specialist plays a critical, safety-sensitive role, balancing technical airfield inspections, emergency response, and vital community interaction to support airport operations. This role requires availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-backs.

• Mission: Ensure the safety, security, and efficiency of the municipal airport through inspections, hazard mitigation, and emergency response.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Airfield Inspections: Conduct daily safety, security, and wildlife sweeps across runways, taxiways, and airport facilities.
• Hazard Mitigation: Identify, document, and coordinate the correction of unsafe conditions and pavement issues found on the airfield.
• NOTAM Management: Issue Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs) to pilots and relevant parties regarding closures, outages, or identified hazards.
• Project Coordination: Escort contractors and monitor safety protocols during airfield construction and maintenance activities.
• Emergency Response: Act as a primary responder for aircraft incidents, fuel spills, severe weather events, and other airport emergencies.
• Facility Maintenance: Perform minor repairs, mowing, weed control, and debris removal using various airport vehicles.

The Must-Haves
• Background: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to obtain airport driver, radio, NOTAM, and safety training during the probationary period.
• Experience: One year of experience in aviation, airport operations, FBO/ramp activities, public works, or emergency services, along with the ability to obtain an Arizona Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with a tanker endorsement upon hire.
• Skills: Strong communication and recordkeeping skills; sound judgment under pressure; ability to work outdoors; operate equipment; and respond effectively to irregular operations and emergencies.
• Bonus: Associate’s degree in aviation management, Public Administration, or a related field; experience with FAA Part 139 concepts, ADOT Aeronautics processes, or airfield construction; or desired certifications such as AAAE Certified Member (CM), Airport Certified Employee (ACE), NIMS/ICS 100-800, or Wildlife Hazard Management.
