AI/ML Software Engineering Intern, Opticaster | Tesla

The Tone:
This is an internship at Tesla, located in Palo Alto, CA. The Opticaster team builds software that optimizes how batteries are charged and discharged to maximize value for customers and the grid. This role is crucial for developing AI-driven software systems that power Tesla’s energy products, ensuring efficient operation at scale and accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Software Development: Develop and maintain scalable software solutions for energy storage optimization, ensuring reliable performance in production environments.
• Machine Learning: Develop machine learning techniques to improve forecasting and decision-making capabilities within energy systems.
• Tooling and Monitoring: Build and enhance cloud-based tools to analyze system performance and monitor Tesla’s global fleet of energy products.
• Testing and Validation: Contribute to the development of simulation and testing frameworks to validate the effectiveness of AI/ML algorithms.
• Performance Optimization: Identify and address performance bottlenecks related to infrastructure, computation, and memory efficiency in software systems.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively enrolled student pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience: Experience with software development and an interest in deploying code to production environments.
• Skills: Proficiency in Python or other relevant programming languages, with experience in Linux environments and Git. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with cloud computing and big data technologies such as AWS, Spark, Airflow, or Kubernetes.
• Bonus: Passion for renewable energy and energy storage, with prior experience in the field. Experience with machine learning and AI techniques, particularly in time series forecasting or optimization.
