AI Enablement Intern | Emerson

This is an internship at Emerson. This role is crucial for integrating artificial intelligence into real-world engineering work practices within Emerson’s Flow Controls engineering organization, aiming to significantly enhance productivity, quality, and speed across various engineering disciplines.

• Mission: Integrate AI into engineering workflows to improve productivity, quality, and speed in product development and sustaining engineering across firmware, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Workflow Analysis: Identify and analyze engineering workflows that are suitable candidates for AI-assisted improvements across firmware, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
• Prototype Development: Develop AI-based prototypes designed to automate tasks related to source code generation, documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
• LLM Application: Apply large language models (LLMs) to various engineering artifacts such as technical specifications, test results, and defect data to extract insights and automate processes.
• Tool Building: Develop agents, scripts, or other lightweight tools to directly improve engineering productivity and efficiency within the organization.
• Impact Measurement: Document the results of AI interventions and quantify the achieved productivity improvements through measurable metrics.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
• Experience: Demonstrated programming experience; practical experience working with AI models, automation principles, or data-driven systems.
• Skills: Programming in Python, C#, or JavaScript; practical application of AI models; understanding of automation principles; clear and effective technical communication with diverse engineering audiences.
• Bonus: Prior internship experience or significant project experience applying AI to solve real-world problems; experience integrating AI solutions into existing workflows or legacy systems; familiarity with version control systems like Git, working with APIs, and understanding backend or cloud-based systems; a genuine interest in industrial automation, embedded systems, or engineered products.
